Alta Vista Continuation High School
(June 08, 2001)
Rosalina Rodriguez:
Despite discouragement with the educational system and her experience of personal tragedy, Rodriguez became a model student and a regular on the honor roll at Alta Vista. A strong leader, she made it a point to make new students feel at home. The recipient of a scholarship from the MVLA Foundation this year, she plans to go to college and become a lawyer.
Miguel Valencia:
Motivated by a profound desire to finish high school for himself and his family, Valencia earned 103 credits in one year to graduate earlier than the required date of June 1, 2001. He plans to continue his education at Foothill College and then go on to San Jose State University. His example as the first in his family to graduate and go on to college has inspired several pf his friends to complete their education as well.
Krista Yakubovsky:
An indefatigable spirit, Yakubovsky quickly distinguished herself by her enthusiastic spirit and tenacity in the face of the many challenges she has conquered in her young life. Known in the Alta Vista community as someone who takes charge and gets things done, she has been very outspoken about injustice and volunteered with school activities and functions. Yakubovsky has been on the honor roll several times and received a scholarship from the MVLA Foundation this year.
