Election time can be a season of confusion for many voters, with a slew of campaign ads and other political rhetoricadding to their bewilderment.
To reduce the confusion, the League of Women Voters is helping the electorate make more informed decisions on Election Day with SmartVoter.org, a comprehensive Web site providing objective, nonpartisan background information on the candidates and propositions appearing on California's election ballots.
"In order to make an informed decision, voters must have a clear understanding about all aspects of each issue,'' noted Trudell Een, project director for Smart Voter.
"It is critical that voters have access to objective and impartial information. SmartVoter.org provides the most in-depth information about Californian elections and does so on a nonpartisan basis.''
Voters can log onto the site to find information about the elections in their communities, including school and municipal measures as well as profiles of candidates in for school district, municipal and run-off elections.
SmartVoter.org is also designed to provide a means for all candidates in participating counties to publish information about themselves and their candidacy directly to voters at no charge.
Voters visiting the site can input their address to find their polling place and receive a customized ballot including measures and seats for elected positions in their areas.
SmartVoter.org can also link voters with related newspaper articles and more election sites.
