(April 09, 2004) San Antonio weekend service saved
After months of uncertainty, the San Antonio station secured a spot on Caltrain's weekend schedule, effective June 7. Hourly weekend trains will stop at the San Antonio and Mountain View stations, and Caltrain's baby bullet train will make downtown stops during the week.
Before Caltrain shut down weekend service in July 2002 for construction, trains ran every hour on Saturdays and every two hours on Sundays. Regular riders and residents from the Crossings, a transit-oriented development adjacent to the San Antonio station, lobbied Caltrain to adopt frequent service schedules for Mountain View.
Since November, Caltrain has received thousands of comments on the schedule proposals through public meetings, phone calls, e-mails, letters and petitions. The new schedule marks the highest service levels in the transit group's 140-year history, according to a company spokesperson.
Budget 101
The League of Women Voters of Los Altos-Mountain View is hosting a free lesson on the state and local budget situation at Mountain View City Hall on April 19 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Local community and nonprofit leaders will be on hand to discuss the governor's proposals to take $1.3 billion in county and city revenues next year to meet the state's obligation to fund schools.
Panelists include Supervisor Liz Kniss, Mountain View-Whisman School Superintendent Jim Negri, Mountain View City Manager Kevin Duggan, Community Services Agency Director Tom Myers, Mayview Clinic Director Joanne Cabrera, Los Altos City Manager Phil Rose and Los Altos Hills City Manager Maureen Cassingham. The meeting will be held in council chambers at City Hall, 500 Castro Street.
