Mountain View police chase felon
(July 09, 2004) Suspect is apprehended in San Francisco
A pursuit on Interstate Highway 280 ended with the use of a non-lethal weapon on an uncooperative suspect, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A wanted felon who led police on a high-speed pursuit for more than 45 minutes last Friday was apprehended in San Francisco, according to CHP Officer Reggie Redmond.
The chase began in Mountain View after officers attempted to stop a tan or gray BMW at 1:15 p.m. in the area of Miramonte Avenue and Cuesta Drive.
The vehicle and license plate number matched a vehicle that had eluded police earlier that morning during a routine stop for a broken taillight, Mountain View Police Sgt. Derek Sousa said.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 40-year-old George Andrianow, again fled from police through a residential area of Mountain View before crossing into Los Altos, according to Sousa.
Officers pursued the suspect onto northbound Interstate Highway 280 into San Mateo County before California Highway Patrol officers joined the pursuit.
CHP officers, with the help of the San Francisco Police Department, apprehended Andrianow at 2:01 p.m. on the Cesar Chavez Street off-ramp on Interstate 280, according to Redmond.
Redmond said that Andrianow pulled his vehicle over on the shoulder and was unresponsive to officers' verbal commands.
He exited the vehicle and simply started walking away from officers. San Francisco police officers quickly apprehended him using a non-lethal weapon to control him.
Redmond said that Andrianow's mental stability is "in question'' and that he was unarmed.
Andrianow is wanted for prescription forgery, narcotics possession, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of stolen property, according to police.
