County property values growing slowly County property values growing slowly (July 09, 2004)

Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone announced last week that property values in the county grew at the slowest rate in a decade.

The total net assessed value of all property in the county grew by 2.28 percent in 2003-04. The total net value of all property in the county is $222.48 billion according to the assessor's office.

"This is the slowest rate of roll growth in 10 years,'' Stone said. "In just four years, we've gone from double-digit assessment growth to barely any at all.''

The assessor's office reduced the assessed values of approximately 24,000 properties during the first half of the year. The $10-billion reduction was the largest one-year reduction in county history.
