County property values growing slowly
(July 09, 2004)Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone announced last week that property values in the county grew at the slowest rate in a decade.
The total net assessed value of all property in the county grew by 2.28 percent in 2003-04. The total net value of all property in the county is $222.48 billion according to the assessor's office.
"This is the slowest rate of roll growth in 10 years,'' Stone said. "In just four years, we've gone from double-digit assessment growth to barely any at all.''
The assessor's office reduced the assessed values of approximately 24,000 properties during the first half of the year. The $10-billion reduction was the largest one-year reduction in county history.
