U.S. Congress member Anna Eshoo, whose district includes Mountain View, is hosting a town hall meeting on July 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Mountain View City Hall, 500 Castro St. She will greet residents and discuss her legislative work in the Council Chambers.
Smog check extension close to passing
State Assembly member Sally Lieber's bill to require old cars to get smog checks cleared another hurdle last week. The Senate Committee on Transportation voted 8-2 to approve the bill, AB 2683, sending it to the appropriations committee.
The bill would end the rolling exemption on smog checks, which exempts 30-year-old cars from the smog check program. If the bill becomes law, all pre-1976 cars will be permanently exempt from the program, while all newer cars would continue to need smog checks.
"Exempting all cars through the rolling 30-year exemption seriously compromises the program's goal of clean air," Lieber said in a statement.

Bicyclists petitioning Caltrain
Bicycle commuters are compiling signatures asking Caltrain to increase bike capacity on their baby bullets trains. The baby bullets hold 16 bikes, compared to 32 on the regular trains. Bike advocates plan to present the petition to the Caltrain board at its July 12 meeting.
A Caltrain spokesperson said she had received dozens of complaints from bicyclists who were denied access because of crowding.
