Higgins leads school race in money
(October 08, 2004) Next filing deadline is in two weeks
Incumbent Gloria Higgins has raised and spent the most money in the Nov. 2 election for the Mountain View-Whisman School District board, according to forms filed at the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters on Tuesday.
Higgins, who has served on the board for two years, raised $3,604 from contributions $100 or less each and a graphic design service valued at $200. She spent $2,850.73, primarily on lawn signs and campaign literature.
Challenger Fiona Walter had filed a form stating her intention not to raise or spend $1,000 or more but then decided she will go over that amount. Walter will be required to fill out a form detailing her contributions and expenditures by the next filing deadline, said the Registrar's Mary Watson.
The other three candidates in the race, challengers Juan Aranda, Michael Kelly and RoseMary Roquero, also filed forms stating their intentions to raise or spend less than $1,000 on their campaigns. They will not be required to file any further finance forms if they do not exceed that limit.
The five candidates are running for three open seats on the five-member board. Current board members Rose Filicetti and Carol Fisher are retiring.
The next filing deadline for campaign finance forms is Oct. 21.
