Rengstorff House to hold holiday gala Rengstorff House to hold holiday gala (December 03, 2004)

Residents will be able to enjoy parlor games, fine foods and music at the Rengstorff House's annual Holiday Soiree on Dec. 12.

Proceeds from the benefit, sponsored by the Friends of "R" House, will go towards the upkeep and furnishing of Mountain View's historic home, located at 3070 N. Shoreline Blvd. Organizers said they hope to raise $1,200.

"You don't raise a huge amount of money because you can only fit so many people in the house," said Paula Bettencourt, the city's assistant community services director.

The event will run from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., and tickets are $25.

Rengstorff House will be decked out with holiday decorations. The theme this year is Victorian, and those who attend the party are encouraged to dress in costume if they wish.

While Father Christmas is rumored to be stopping by, organizers said this affair isn't really appropriate for children.

"It will mostly be people sitting around and talking," said Friends of "R" House's Nina Wood. "We are having champagne this year."

Added Bettencourt: "It's not like a breakfast with Santa."

The Rengstorff House Holiday Soiree has been going on for at least 12 years. It is one of biggest annual fundraisers for the house. Other ones include the Spring Tea and an arts festival in during the summer.
