Knight Ridder buys Daily News chain
(February 18, 2005) The Palo Alto Daily News and four sister papers between Los Gatos and Burlingame/San Mateo are being purchased by Knight Ridder, the publisher of the San Jose Mercury News and the nation's second largest newspaper chain.
An announcement made said the publishers will remain and the "plan is to maintain the operations as they are now configured." The Daily News publishers are to report to Hilary Schneider, senior vice president/operations for Knight Ridder.
"As for the Palo Alto Weekly and our two other community weeklies on the Peninsula, the Menlo Park Almanac and the Mountain View Voice, we will continue to do what we do best -- providing high quality, insightful and in-depth coverage of our communities and the most efficient way for local businesses to get their advertising messages to residents," said Palo Alto Weekly Publisher Bill Johnson.
