Giants win Little League division Giants win Little League division (June 24, 2005)

Earlier this month at McKelvey Park, the Morgan Lewis Giants captured the Mountain View Little League Majors Division championship, defeating the Peninsula Day Care White Sox, 7-0.

The Giants also captured the regular season title with a 17-5 record, and represented Mountain View in the District 44 Tournament of Champions, where they lost to the Moreland Little League Giants of San Jose/Campbell, 3-1.

In the championship game, the Giants jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a double by Jonathan Ikinaga, and stretched their lead to 6-0 in the third inning on timely hits by Victor Quezada, Ikinaga, and Jonathan Meneze.

Pitcher Stephen Lee recorded a complete game victory (his third straight during the playoffs), allowing just four hits, while striking out eight and walking none. The victory in the championship game capped a playoff run of three straight wins, during which the Giants, behind the pitching of Lee, outscored their opponents 17-1.

For the season, the Giants were led by Lee's pitching (15-1 record, 137 strikeouts, 23 walks) and batting (4 home runs, .400 average). Other key offensive contributors were Quezada (.343 average), Ikinaga (.343 average), Oram (8 doubles), and Meneze (22 RBI's). Eleven-year-old pitcher Steven Nakahama also had a solid season, finishing with a 4-1 record, 77 strikeouts and only 23 walks.
