Mountain View High School's John Fisher wins volleyball accolades Mountain View High School's John Fisher wins volleyball accolades (August 12, 2005)

A local youth volleyball team recently served up some tough competition at the USA Junior Olympic Boys' Volleyball Championships in Louisville, Ky., with outside hitter John Fisher, an incoming junior at Mountain View High School, being named the tournament's most valuable player.

The City Beach 16-and-under team snagged first place in the Gold Division of the four-day tournament, which wrapped up last month. Led by coach JaRhome Buckley, the Santa Clara-based team -- named after the City Beach facility at which it practices -- played its way to a 10-2 run at the event.

Fisher also plays for Mountain View High, finishing his first season on the Spartans varsity team last school year.

This is the first year City Beach has offered a boys club volleyball team. Boys from a variety of high schools in the South Bay and Peninsula comprise the team. -- Staff report
