Murder suspect extradited to Mountain View

The suspect in the Aug. 21 murder of Nocomes Noel III on Old Middlefield Way was sent back to Mountain View last week by the Tucson, Ariz. police who arrested him.

Kevin Maurice Sayers, a 24-year old Mountain View resident, waived extradition and is being held at the Santa Clara County main jail. Police believe he shot Noel after an altercation following the KMEL Summer Jam concert at Shoreline Amphitheatre. -- Jon Wiener

MV schools take in hurricane refugees

Officials from the Mountain View-Whisman and Mountain View-Los Altos school districts have confirmed that two children displaced by Hurricane Katrina will move in with an area family to attend elementary schools within the district and a third student will enter Los Altos High School. A fourth elementary student is expected to arrive in the coming weeks. The Red Cross is screening refugees carefully to ensure a viable transition to Mountain View, school officials said. -- Molly Tanenbaum

Storm knocks out power for dozens in MV

Tuesday's storm brought more than 3,000 lightning strikes to the Bay Area, according to Pacific Gas and Electric Co., causing scattered outages throughout the region, including in Mountain View.

Lightning strikes left 141 Mountain View residents without power on Tuesday, said PG&E spokesman Jason Alderman. The outages began at 7:12 a.m. and were resolved by 9:42 p.m., with the average person without power for about three hours, Alderman said.

"We had a lot of outages all over the Peninsula," he said. "We had to be everywhere. It was very labor intensive." -- Molly Tanenbaum
