Norman Sokoloff

Norman Sokoloff, a distinguished orthopedic surgeon in the South Bay and at El Camino Hospital, died Oct. 29 after a fight with leukemia. He was 59.

A Los Altos Hills resident, he kept medical offices in Sunnyvale and at El Camino Hospital. During his 25 years in the area, he was the recipient of several awards and was counted among San Jose Magazine's "Best Doctors in Silicon Valley" in 2000, 2001 and 2002. He was also a prominent advisor in the biomedical investment world in the South Bay.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ilene; his son Bret of Memphis; daughter Cari of San Francisco; brother Joel of San Diego; sister Wilma Steinberg of New Jersey; a daughter-in-law and three grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established at Jefferson Medical College for a student award in his name. Send donations to Jefferson Medical College, Suite 110, 925 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, PA, 19107, and indicate "In memory of Norman F. Sokoloff, MD."
