Shirley J. Kaus

Shirley Kaus, a 36-year resident of Mountain View, passed away on Jan. 23 at El Camino Hospital. She was 78.

She was born Shirley June Strobel on June 5, 1927 in Freeport, Ill. and married Daniel Kaus in Washington, D.C. in 1948. The couple moved to Mountain View in 1970 and lived there ever since.

During World War II, she worked for the federal government in Washington, D.C. She later worked for several years as a water resources map maker for the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park.

Kaus was known to be a friendly and warm-hearted person, with a good sense of humor. She gave generously to local charity organizations.

She is survived by her husband and her son, Danek Kaus, who also lives in Mountain View, and her brother, John Strobel, who lives in Illinois. She was buried in a private ceremony on Jan. 27 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos.
