Have you seen these? Have you seen these? (February 03, 2006)

Many Mountain View residents have caught glimpses of Google installers putting hundreds of strange-looking mesh router devices on light poles around town. It's all part of the company's famous plan to deliver free WiFi service to the city.

The project, announced last November, is still on target for completion by June. When it's ready, residents anywhere in the city will be able to use the company's wireless network. The signal should cover all outdoor areas throughout the city and will reach into the front rooms of most buildings.

"We'd like to see it happen sooner," said city economic development manager Ellis Berns, "but they seem to be working towards that objective. We're making progress."
