Mountain View police arrested two men on charges of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly attacking a man on the corner of Hope and Dana streets -- first with a bat and then with a car -- after the downtown bars closed early Saturday morning.
Police say the victim, a San Jose resident, was walking to his car with friends on March 28 at around 2:20 a.m. when Mountain View residents Krystoffer Herrera, 23, and Israul Herrera, 26, drove by and the two groups started arguing.
According to police spokesperson Liz Wylie, the confrontation turned violent when Krystoffer Herrera took a baseball bat out of his truck and hit the victim on the head. Israul Herrera then drove his car into the victim, Wylie said, and the two suspects fled the scene.
The victim had minor injuries to his head and received medical attention at the scene, but refused to be transported to the hospital, Wylie said.
Officers located and arrested the two suspects later that evening, charging them with assault with a deadly weapon. Both were intoxicated, Wylie said, and Israul Herrera claims he was also hit on the head but isn't sure who hit him.
Police say they don't know why the fight started, and that neither the suspects nor the victim are fully cooperating.
