A big turnout is expected for the high school district's board meeting tonight, when trustees will discuss how to cut $1.3 million from the Adult School's budget -- an amount administrators say may require them to reduce funding to some programs by nearly half.
The Adult School, part of the Mountain View-Los Altos High School District, was hit hard by state budget cuts, and will have to cut 20 percent of its total budget next year. Administrators have been planning a new budget for the Adult School, which could include 45 percent cuts to programs for adults with disabilities and 44 percent cuts to English as a Second Language programs.
Although district trustees will discuss the proposed budget at tonight's meeting, they are not scheduled to make a final decision about it until May 11.
The Monday, April 27 public session starts at 7 p.m. District staffers say they are expecting many local residents to attend, and have moved it to the Mountain View High School Spartan Theatre, located at 3535 Truman Ave.
