Mountain View is now a member of the Bay Area Climate Change Collaborative after a unanimous City Council vote last Tuesday night.
The BACCC is a coalition of Bay Area cities, including San Francisco and San Jose, focused on creating a regional solution to the problem of climate change.
Prior to the vote, council member John Inks called climate change a "kind of highfalutin" cause, and said there were other, more immediate environmental problems that need to be dealt with. But he concluded there would be "no harm done" by joining the group and voted in favor of it.
City staff noted that joining the group does not cost the city anything and does not commit the city to a particular course of action.
