The public is invited to attend a series of forums next week by the Foothill-De Anza Community College District as administrators seek a new chancellor to replace Martha Kanter, who is stepping down to take a post in the Obama administration.
At the forums, district staff and faculty will discuss the experiences and skills they are looking for in a new chancellor, and hope to receive the public's input as well.
Kanter, the district's current chancellor, was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as undersecretary of education. Her nomination still awaits confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
The district is hoping to have a new chancellor in place by January 2010. In the meantime, Mike Brandy, the district's former vice chancellor of business services, will serve as interim chancellor after Kanter leaves for Washington, D.C.
A committee of 14 faculty, staff, students and district residents is helping in the nationwide search, and seeks input from the community as the committee makes up a profile of characteristics they want in a new chancellor. They plan to make recommendations to trustees by November.
The open forums will be held during the first week of June as follows:
■ June 2, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Campus Center Conference Room A, De Anza College
