The pot club forced to close by the city of Mountain View last month met a similar fate rather quickly in Sunnyvale. It is now reopening in San Jose, said Buddy's CEO Matt Lucero.
In a press release, Lucero said the new San Jose location at 4140 Steven Creek Boulevard is the medical marijuana dispensary's "biggest ever" and that Buddy's is looking to "establish a permanent home in this wonderful community."
Lucero also announced that he would not be running for Mountain View City Council this year, despite announcing his intention to run in several newspapers.
"My top priority continues to be helping the thousands of seriously ill residents of this community and, as such, I am putting my political aspirations aside and will not be running for political office this year," Lucero writes.
Buddy's Sunnyvale location was open for less than a month. Sunnyvale had immediately pressured Buddy's to close after it opened on July 9. Sunnyvale spokesman John Pilger had said Buddy's was facing fines for every day that it was cited by the city. Sunnyvale has a ban on pot clubs.
Buddy's opened in Mountain View on Bayshore Parkway in early April but closed July 7 after a court granted the city's request for an injunction against Buddy's. Lucero, a wealthy former corporate lawyer, had said he would take the city "all the way to the Supreme Court" but later decided to drop the case.
