Dew you know the weather forecast?

Mountain View gets renamed after a bright green beverage on Weather.com

Welcome to Mountain Dew, California

The folks at Weather.com have accidentally renamed our fine city after a soft drink.

When you type a Mountain View zip code into Weather.com, it lists "Mountain Dew Ames Resource Center" as the nearest weather station. They somehow managed to make two goof ups in our neighboring NASA center's name as well, as NASA Ames is a research center, not a resource center.

Resident Bruce Karney was amused. About 10 years ago Karney wrote an April Fools story along these lines, in which the city gets paid to rename itself Mountain Dew, California, solving the city's budget problems.

"I haven't contacted Weather.com to ask them to change it. I'm sort of enjoying seeing it for now," Karney said.

The gaff has remained on the site over a week, although we expect it to be fixed soon after this is published.

Remember, climate scientists cannot be questioned according to the 14th Amendment, so don't even try.

I would gladly rename the city for a day if Mountain Dew wanted to make a generous donation to the coffers.

I vote we be named the town of MOUNTAIN DEW -- because from my house's view in MV there is no mountain "View" anymore.

Very strange. Entering 94040, 94041, and 94043 all resulted in weather for Mountain View, CA--but the Nearby TruPoint Locations included (second choice in each case) Mountain Dew Ames Resource Center. On the other hand entering Mountain Dew Ames Resource Center did not result in Mountain View, CA as a Nearby TruPoint Location.
