Police now say that the woman suspected of biting two children on the face yesterday may have only pinched their cheeks.
Mountain View police arrested Polly Beltramo, 46, of Palo Alto on suspicion of felony child abuse after a mother at the Book Buyers bookstore on Castro Street reported that her young children had been bitten on their cheeks around 1 p.m. on Jan. 12. The children, an infant and a toddler, were treated at the scene.
"We no longer believe the two children were bitten by the suspect. Instead, we believe she pinched them," Liz Wylie, spokeswoman for the police department, said Friday. "The injuries are not consistent with being bit."
As the only person who saw the incident was the toddler, police don't have any credible witnesses, Wylie said.
