Tamara reportedly tried to contact mother on night of her death

Bookmark and Share
A girl who was apparently murdered in Oakland early Tuesday of last week has been identified as 17-year-old Mountain View resident Tamara Thompson, a police spokesman announced.

At about 3 a.m. on March 31, police received a report of an unresponsive female in the 3700 block of Webster Street, said Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason. The victim, later identified as Tamara Thompson, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Tamara, who lived with her mother in Mountain View and attended Mountain View High School several years ago, had reportedly run away from home. Her mother told reporters that Tamara sent a text message asking her mother to pick her up in Oakland earlier that evening, and hung up quickly during a phone call as if in danger.

According to Sparky Harlan, executive director and CEO of Bill Wilson Center in Santa Clara County, in a post on her blog, Tamara "had been in the Santa Clara County Juvenile Ranch but was allowed to visit home on weekends. Unfortunately, four weeks ago she ran away, perhaps to hook up with a boyfriend in Oakland."

As of Wednesday the Oakland Police Department continued to withhold the specific cause of Thompson's death while they are investigating the case. Anyone with information on Tamara Thompson's whereabouts that night is asked to call the Oakland police homicide division at (510) 238-3821.

How could she have been a student at MVHS "several years ago" when she is only 17. I am pretty sure 10 year olds cannot attend the high school.

several years ago, probably meant she attended freshman (maybe soph) year but left/dropped out/quit?

Sorry for the confusion. School officials told us this morning that Tamara attended Mountain View High School as a freshman.

Hi, my name is Jamisha Davis. I am 18 years of age, and Tamara and I were best friends from middle school up until she was... We had become distant over the last year after I moved from Mountain View to Oakland. She would often times come out here and call me once in awhile, come see me and we would hang out and she would be gone again, sometimes days, sometimes weeks. She never really would tell me what she was up to, but after various signs i knew. The only thing i thought i thought i could do was just show her that I was her friend regardless and assure her that she could still become the doctor that she always said she wanted to become. Tamara was a sister to me and I lost alot when she left us.... Continue to pray for her family her Mother, Father, Sister and Nephew especially. We have all suffered a great lost.
