Arrest made in Whisman Park murder
|
| An arrest has been made in Mountain View's first murder since 2005, police spokesperson Liz Wylie said Monday.
Marco Jauregui, 25, of Milpitas, is accused of fatally shooting Rene Escalante, 24, at Whisman Park in the 300 block of Easy Street at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Jauregui, a friend of the victim, was arrested at a relative's home early Monday morning, Wylie said.
Two witnesses were among the group of four friends when, for unknown reasons, Jauregui shot Escalante several times and then fled, Wylie said.
Escalante, who was most recently living in Santa Clara, but who had lived in Mountain View off and on for several years, was pronounced dead at a local hospital Sunday.
"We knew who our suspect was from the very beginning,'' Wylie said. "It was just a matter of getting the warrants.''
Wylie said the incident is not being investigated as gang-related. The motive for the shooting is unknown. — Bay City News Service Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Posted by Los, a resident of the Old Mountain View neighborhood, on Sep 26, 2007 at 6:44 pm I was one Marco's closest friends growing up, He had just been released from Jail a few months ago and it was evident he had gotten worse. The damn Jail system is ridiculous... It made him into a monster... I made a comment that Marcos would be dead or would kill someone with in his year of release, sadden to konw i was right.... I'm sorry for the victims friends and family but justice will be served.

Having a friend kill you is the most horrific way to die. I am just glad Marcos is back in jail where he belongs!
