Grass fire along Hwy 237 brought under control
|
Local firefighters were quick to get a grass fire under control along Highway 237 near Middlefield Road on Tuesday afternoon.
"Upon arrival firefighters found a grass fire growing in size as it was pushed by the wind and quickly called for additional resources," fire department spokesman Lynn Brown wrote in a press release.
Two Mountain View fire engines responded to a call at 1:07 p.m. from Sunnyvale dispatchers, who also sent two Sunnyvale fire engines and a truck to the scene of the fire because it was 50 feet from the Sunnyvale border. The fire burned less than an acre before it was contained at 1:30 p.m. and embers were kept from jumping from the site east of the freeway and north of Middlefield Road across the freeway to other dry grass areas.
To help in stopping the blaze, a fire hydrant was used at an office complex at 700 East Middlefield Road.
Though lanes were not closed, traffic slowed on the 237. A frontage road east of 237 was closed.
Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. — Daniel DeBolt
