Gov. Schwarzenegger visits Google, announces new green institute
|
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger made an appearance at Google headquarters on Thursday, May 20, to announce the creation of a new, non-profit Green Products Innovation Institute based in San Francisco and dedicated to developing comprehensive chemical standards for every day products.
"California has the most comprehensive green chemistry program in the world, and our leadership in ensuring the products we use every day are safe for our families and environment has resulted in the Green Products Innovation Institute choosing to headquarter here in California," said Gov. Schwarzenegger.
According to the governor's office, the institute will collaborate with public and private entities to provide companies, government and consumers data on the toxicity characteristics of chemicals and materials used in products.
His announcement at Google was overshadowed by his appearance later in the day at Tesla Motors Palo Alto headquarters. There, Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda and Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced their companies' new partnership to make electric vehicles at the shuttered New United Motor Manufacturing (NUMMI) auto plant in Fremont.
