Grocery chain eyes Phoenix
|
| To the extreme delight of Monta Loma neighborhood residents, the long-vacant Golden Phoenix supermarket at Rengstorff and Middlefield roads will soon reopen as a Fresh & Easy grocery store, sources say.
Similar to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's stores, Fresh & Easy specializes in non-frozen, pre-packaged foods, marketed as healthy and lacking additives like trans fats.
Tesco, the U.K. grocery giant that owns Fresh & Easy, has announced ambitious plans for its expansion in the U.S. and has already opened several stores in Southern California, Nevada and Arizona. Three others will open in the Bay Area, including one in Sunnyvale and two in San Jose. — Daniel DeBolt Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Posted by Judie Block, a resident of the Monta Loma neighborhood, on Feb 6, 2008 at 7:23 pm Fabulous news!!!! For those of us who live in the neighborhood, we will welcome this upscale, healthy market...and this will give new life to a decaying shopping center. Welcome Fresh and Easy to Mountain View!

Posted by Ago, a resident of the North Whisman neighborhood, on Feb 7, 2008 at 7:59 am It's great to see something finally going into that empty space!!! Fresh & Easy is not scheduled to open until 2009 though... I hope the Starbucks next door is not one of the 100 underperforming stores that has been slated for closing in 2008. Maybe the owner of the complex can renovate the whole shopping center a la Grant Park Plaza with the new Nob Hill Foods.
