Officer identified in police car accident
Squad car was responding to a call when accident occurred

The Mountain View Police Department has identified the officer that was involved in a traffic accident on Dec. 28.
Wahed Magee was driving the squad car that collided with a pickup truck at around 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday night near the intersection of Middlefield and N. Whisman roads.
Magee was driving east on Middlefield Road in response to a call when the squad car collided with the truck, according to Jodie Pierce, a police spokeswoman. The Mountain View Fire Department responded to the accident.
Magee, the male driver of the truck and his female passenger were able to get out of their vehicles on their own. Although all three were transported to a nearby hospital, none had life-threatening injuries, Lynn Brown, a fire and police spokesman said.
All three were released from the hospital late Dec. 28., Pierce said. Neither alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
At this time police have not confirmed which vehicle ran into which vehicle. They are continuing their investigation and will have more details as they become available.

Posted by Jeramy, a resident of the Cuesta Park neighborhood, on Dec 29, 2011 at 1:15 pm I saw the picture of the banged up police car in the Daily Post this morning. You got to wonder how this accident happened. It's funny that the police don't have any details about their own crash.

Posted by jane, a resident of the North Whisman neighborhood, on Dec 29, 2011 at 2:45 pm We heard the impact - by the time we walked a block the sidewalk had a lot of spectators and there were 8-10 police cars, fire chief, hook-and-ladder truck, fire truck, high-intensity lights....
What was astounding was that the truck was vertical! Its undercarriage was facing the street and the grill of the truck looked imbedded in the landscaping next to the sidewalk. The police car had damage to the driver's side and was sideways across the sidewalk. I have NEVER seen a vertical vehicle looking like an Eaaster Island head just sticking right into the ground. It was hard to take in or understand what had happened. The entire scene was surreal.

Posted by BD, a resident of the North Whisman neighborhood, on Dec 29, 2011 at 4:35 pm I am sorry those involved were injured, but I am afraid this accident could have been avoided if the Officer involved had used correct procedure and was using emergency lights and/or sirens en-route to said call. I was enjoying my meal at the nearby Carl's JR when this accident occurred. I saw no sirens or lights until after the collision when 12 Mountain View Patrol cars were counted and 2 Fire engines also the new Hook and Ladder Truck with as many Fire personnel as police. It was quite the scene! Why did we need a ladder truck for an automobile accident? Kind of a waste of resources if you ask me......

But you still read paper and ink newspapers? All that ink on your fingers? All those chopped down trees? Yeccchh!
Btw. I see that the MV Voice has deleted my original post linking to better pictures. If they don't understand the hyperlinking nature of the Net, maybe I'll just delete them from my life.

This wasn't a Code 3 (lights and siren) call. It was just a routine 10-33 (alarm) assignment at a business in the 200 block of Bernardo.

Posted by Glad I Wasn't There, a resident of the Stierlin Estates neighborhood, on Dec 30, 2011 at 4:13 pm Looking at the pictures on the Daily Patch site (Web Link), found using Google, it looks to me that the truck was u-turning at the break in the divider by the shopping center entrance, misjudged the cop car's speed and distance, and got clobbered as they had almost finished the turn. Good thing no serious personal injuries.
