 | Would you support a plastic bag ban in Mountain View or your city?
Each week the Voice heads downtown to ask people a question about a current event. This week we asked people whether they would support a plastic bag ban in their city. Posted by Chris , a resident of the Old Mountain View neighborhood, on Apr 22, 2012 at 9:28 am This ban is dumb. Now our city will lose money because I would go somewhere I can get bags for free. Grocery shopping will not be done in my native city anymore. Thanks city council.

Posted by Timo, a resident of the North Whisman neighborhood, on Apr 22, 2012 at 10:08 pm As i am for the plastic bag ban I think it is ridiculous that i should have to pay for a paper bag. Before plastic bags most stores gave paper bags for free. If you're going to charge me for a paper bag I want to see that money go to a good cause like feeding our children or helping the homeless and not just to line a corporate pocket.

Posted by Chris, a resident of the Old Mountain View neighborhood, on Apr 23, 2012 at 12:13 pm This is the government we are talking about. When have they ever been good at managing money. I am not saying I am that much better, but it is better than pissing it off to the government. That is also crazy because plastic bags are bad for the environment lets charge for plastic bags and we can make money from paper bags as well. This is plain greed and I urge others to do business outside of Mountain View and they will fix this back. It is like our CRV tax. It is BS and the government over reaching finding a new way everyday to let you know that they are the power not the people anymore.

Posted by european, a resident of another community, on Apr 25, 2012 at 3:35 am In Europe plastic bags have been banned since longtime.
Here we pay for bio-bags. If you dont wanna pay some cents for a bag, you could always buy a more resistent one and reuse it over and over.
We owe it to this world!

Why are all the rivers in Europe dead? Why did Europe not stop the slaughter in Bosnia?

Posted by Jim Neal, a resident of the Old Mountain View neighborhood, on May 12, 2012 at 10:59 pm European, lies do not help your cause. My wife is from Italy and had lived there all her life until a little over a year ago. She told me that plastic bags ARE available there, but they charge for them.
As for reusable bags, they can transfer deadly diseases. There was a story just recently published in one of the local papers about a group of young women who became very sick from eating food from the same reusable bag.

The problem is that the government is telling the merchants how much they have to charge for a product. If they can do this, what is to stop them from setting a price for any other product that stores use or sell?
If they really want this, they should put it to a vote as is mandated by Prop 218 and Prop 26!
