Voice wins honors for photos

| The Mountain View Voice took home top honors for its photo essay in the annual statewide California Newspaper Publishers Association competition held in San Jose Saturday, May 5.
The photo essay, "Castro kids go bananas over reading" by staff photographer Michelle Le, took first place in the Voice's circulation category among weekly newspapers in the state.
The Voice also won second place in the news photo category for Le's photo of Amberlin Wu in the story "Sick and tired of chronic fatigue.
The Voice's sister papers, the Palo Alto Weekly and the Almanac, also were honored. The Weekly took home 11 first- and second-place awards, including the award for best website. The Almanac won second place for its coverage of youth and education.
The California Newspaper Publishers Association is a nonprofit trade association for more than 800 publications. Founded in 1888, it represents daily and weekly newspapers and news websites throughout California.

My fellow NO organizer Alan and I were clear we were in the presence of a "photo journalist" and not just a picture taker.
