Cyclist, train collide near downtown station
|
| Caltrain service was briefly halted Tuesday afternoon after a northbound train and a bicyclist collided near the downtown train station.
"A bicyclist ran into the side of southbound train No. 158 at Castro Street in Mountain View," said Caltrain spokesperson Christine Dunn in a statement. "The cyclist was found injured and unconscious."
The accident occurred at about 4:20 p.m., and the tracks had reopened 20 minutes later, according to Dunn. The status and identity of the bicyclist were not immediately available. The cause of the accident is under investigation. — Staff Reports Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Posted by EB, a resident of another community, on May 6, 2008 at 11:27 pm I can maybe see someone not paying attention and getting hit by the "front" of the train, but how does one not see it and run into "the side" of the train? It's huge and loud and the crossing arms are down with the warning lights flashing. Was the bicyclist trying to commit suicide or something?

Obviously he wanted to commit suicide.
How pathetic.
