Supervisors set to vote on sales tax measure
|
The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors this afternoon were set to vote on whether to place a measure on the November ballot that would increase the countywide sales tax by one-eighth of a cent.
The board would also need to give secondary approval to the measure at a meeting on Aug. 7 before it could go on the ballot, according to Supervisor Ken Yeager's office.
The funds generated by the tax increase would be used for a variety of countywide services, including public safety, health programs for low-income children, housing for the homeless, and programs aimed at helping students stay in school.
Wednesday's vote will take place at a 4 p.m. special meeting in the Board of Supervisors chambers at 70 W. Hedding St. in San Jose.

Posted by Steve Ly, a resident of another community, on Aug 2, 2012 at 11:23 am I'm voting "NO." Our combined tax burden is too high and politicians continue to push wasteful projects like high-speed rail.
I'll vote against all tax increase proposals until government learns to live within its means.
