Art: Book Arts Jam
Artists celebrate the art of the book (and of paper and printing) at the free annual Book Arts Jam, which moves this year from Foothill College to the Lucie Stern Community Center at 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. Book and paper creations will be shown and sold, and artists will give talks and demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 20. Many local artists are participating, including Jamila Rufaro and Viviane Schupbach of Palo Alto. Go to bookartsjam.org.

Outdoors: Native-plant gardening
Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills is hosting a native-plant event this Saturday, Oct. 20, with a free 1 p.m. talk on gardening with native plants, and a sale of plants, bulbs, cards, books and posters from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (cash or check only). Community: Talk on state ballot measures
On Sunday, Oct. 21, the League of Women Voters South San Mateo County will host a presentation on the state ballot measures in the November election. The nonpartisan event, intended to be unbiased, is from noon to 1 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Redwood City at 2124 Brewster Ave. Go to lwvssmc.org.
