Woman sentenced for embezzlement
|
A Mountain View woman who pleaded no contest to embezzling $350,000 from a Redwood City construction company was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison, according to San Mateo county prosecutors.
Lili Clay, 50, was the controller for Lencioni Construction Company in Redwood City when she issued approximately $350,000 worth of
unauthorized reimbursement checks to herself from company funds, according to District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
When the business owners discovered the thefts and confronted Clay, she admitted the theft but fled from the building, Wagstaffe said.
Clay was arrested in Exeter, Calif., in mid-August on an arrest warrant, and pleaded no contest to felony embezzlement and an excessive taking enhancement on Nov. 13.
She was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison, to be served in the San Mateo County Jail due to state realignment policies. She has 240 days' credit for time served.
The victims submitted a letter to the court detailing the severe impact the theft has had on their business, Wagstaffe said. They are seeking restitution through the civil courts.— Bay City News Service Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
