|Maurice Ghysels and Bruce Barsi are making known their feelings about state budget cuts to education through a unique form of protest: Starting this weekend, the two are biking to Sacramento to deliver a message in person to the governor.
Ghysels, superintendent of the Mountain View Whisman School District, and Barsi, board president of the Community Health Awareness Council, will begin the 126-mile ride to Sacramento on Saturday, June 14, to hand over a letter expressing their frustration with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's most recent budget proposal.
Although no final budget decision will be made until this summer, the school district currently faces $434,000 in budget cuts, and administrators fear that number could grow.
Ghysels and Barsi, who bike together on the weekends, will begin their ride at 6 a.m. next Saturday at Castro Elementary School.
