There is no danger of an explosion or fire after construction workers near the corner of Bryant and Villa streets clipped a gas line this afternoon (Jan. 4) while performing renovations on what is to become Steins Beer Garden, a fire official said.
Firefighters and police responded shortly after 4 p.m. to an area near Red Rock Coffee, where the wind apparently carried the smell of gas, leading to a report of a possible leak.
Lynn Brown of the Mountain View Fire Department said that the construction crew "nicked a line" while working at the project site. The crew acted quickly to call PG&E, Brown said.
But in the meantime, someone near Red Rock apparently smelled the gas leak and notified the authorities, which caused a fire engine and multiple Mountain View police squad cars to be sent to the area, according to Brown and a witness.
Brown said there is no danger to anyone in the surrounding area and confirmed that no one had been asked to evacuate. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
