No one was hurt around 1 p.m. this afternoon when a gas line was ruptured in downtown Los Altos, according to a PG&E spokeswoman, who said that gas service was ultimately shut off to three storefronts in the 100 block of Main Street.
Gas will not be restored to the area until tomorrow, Feb. 21, PG&E representative Monica Tell said. Apparently, the line was ruptured when a third-party construction crew hit it while digging in the area.
Local fire officials responded and shut down a portion of Main Street temporarily, Tell said.
Of the three commercial buildings that lost gas, one of the storefronts was vacant, Tell said. Gas was not cut off to any private residences. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
