Schools pick their top profs
Keren Robertson, Alecia Falk named teachers of the year

Bookmark and Share
Two local teachers, Keren Robertson of Los Altos High School and Alecia Falk of Huff Elementary, have been named teachers of the year by their respective school districts. Both will be honored later in the summer for their leadership and commitment to the community.

The high school district named Robertson for her work as English department chair and for her leadership role at Los Altos High. Robertson teaches advanced placement classes, works with the literacy program and has been a department chair for the last three years.

In addition to teaching, Robertson helped develop an advisory program for ninth graders and participated in the school's most recent accreditation process, according to Principal Wynne Satterwhite.

In the Mountain View Whisman school district, a committee of union members and administrators chose Falk, a fifth grade teacher at Huff Elementary School, to be teacher of the year. The committee selected Falk because she continues to pursue her personal education through classes and courses, teaches in an interesting way, and is a "champion for youth." The district also noted Falk's creative teaching style and professionalism.

Both teachers will be honored during an event sponsored by the Santa Clara Office of Education in September.

Get it right next time. Schools are not picking the best teachers. A "committee of union members and administrators in MVWSD choose them. With administrators having the final say. The process is rigged. Period. Survey the teachers doing the work and you'd know. More spin from the district office.

Um, so the teacher of the year awards shouldnt be picked by their peers and supervisors? What do you want- a parent vote? That would turn into nothing more than a popularity contest dominated by teachers at larger campuses or ones able to turn out the vote.

Anyone who has actually interacted with our school administrative leadership in a substantive way- both at MVWSD and the high school level- comes away impressed. The uninformed vitriol on this board is pretty comical

Eric:

Stop being a cheer leader. You are obviously linked to the district administraion. Teachers will tell you it's rigged. Talk to them, not the district administration.

The favorite argeument of someone with no arguement-- "you must be linked to such-and-such". I've never heard a teacher complain aobut that. Rigged? You are insulting the excellent teacher that was honored this year. Stop your whining

Both of my children had Alecia Falk as a 5-th grade teacher. She is, indeed, a wonderful teacher and very deserving of this honor. Don't think anything needed to be "rigged" here.
