| A bench dedicated to the memory of William Ware has been installed near the intersection of California Street and Escuela Avenue at the site of the accident that took the well-known Mountain View man's life last summer.
"I can hardly wait to see it in person," Dolores Marquez, Ware's niece, wrote in March 13 email to the Voice. The bench, which carries a small plaque memorializing the late Ware, is located at the bus stop in the 1800 block of California Street, where he was standing on June 21, 2012, when another Mountain View man lost control of his car and collided with Ware -- killing him instantly.

Dedicated turn lanes and signals to match have taken a lot of the danger out of that area. Idiots will still be idiots but I feel much safer since the improvements.

Yet another citizen blissfully unaware of the much higher incidence of car vs bike/pedestrian events that happen just a couple blocks over on El Camino between Shoreline and Rengstorff.
But I guess if it wasn't in the news, it didn't happen, right?

Posted by NW Resident, a resident of the North Whisman neighborhood, on Mar 15, 2013 at 5:36 pm It's good to see that Mr. Ware will be remembered in the neighborhood where he lived. It's also sad that there was another fatal collision that took the life of a pedestrian over at Phyllis and Hans this week.
I've also seen MVPD traffic officers covering specific areas of town each day this week, espcecially around the schools. The dept's FB page is a good source to find out where they are working and the page is public so you don't have to be on FB to view it.
