The seven young people accused of murdering a Mountain View brother and sister had been plotting for at least a month, and text messaged back and forth the night of the crime as they executed an elaborate plan to rob one of the victims, according to a complaint filed in Superior Court.

Omar Aquino, 24, and his sister Teresa Sanchez-Aquino, 27, were shot to death in their home on the 1900 block of Plymouth Street in the early hours of Saturday, June 28, while Sanchez-Aquino's 8-year-old son slept in the next room. Police announced a break in the case on Wednesday, and so far five suspects have been arrested and two others remain at large.

"Omar was definitely the primary target," said Sergeant Ken Leal, who is heading the case, during a Wednesday press conference. "It is unfortunate Teresa was a victim."

The seven suspects -- three of them were siblings, and two of them juveniles -- "were all connected socially," police said, and were acquaintances of Aquino. Police believe robbery was the original motive, and they have not ruled out drugs or gangs activity.

"The house was ransacked," said Leal, who is heading the investigation. "[The suspects] spent quite a bit of time there."

According to the complaint from Santa Clara County Superior Court, on June 1, suspects Kenneth Ivory Thomas, 20, and his 15-year-old sister Fame Thomas, both of Campbell, discussed a plan to rob Omar Aquino of his valuables and cash. They allegedly decided that Fame would go to the movies with Omar, then lure him back to his home, where the other suspects would rob him.

The other suspects include another Thomas sister, Faith, 17; Victoria Frances Thompson, 20, of Morgan Hill; Nicory Marquis Spann, 18, of San Jose; Michael David Adams, 20, of San Jose; and Kim Pham, 19, of San Jose or Morgan Hill.

The superior court complaint describes the following events on the night of the murders:

As planned, Fame Thomas went to the movies with Aquino on Friday, June 27, while Kenneth Thomas and Spann headed to Mountain View. Faith and Fame met in the movie theater bathroom the night of the crime, the document says.

The Thomas siblings texted all night, arranging for Pham and Adams to follow Fame and Aquino back to the victim's house. Spann and Kenneth Thomas met the other suspects at Aquino's home.

Once inside, the suspects ransacked the house, stealing an iPhone and other valuables. Victoria Thompson entered the home, and assisted with the robbery, the complaint alleges.

"Usually in a homicide, you don't get this number of people involved," Leal said at the press conference. "Never in my career have I seen a case like this."

Although the complaint lists Spann as the shooter, Mountain View police spokesperson Liz Wylie said that at present, "we have no way of telling who the shooter is, but we don't believe it is Nicory [Spann]."

A handgun was the primary weapon, and police say it is still missing. No drugs or drug paraphernalia was found in the house.

Except for Faith Thomas and Victoria Thompson, all suspects are being charged with double murder. All seven are being charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit murder.

As of Friday, Kenneth and Faith Thomas are the only two suspects still at large. The Thomas family "has been limited in its cooperation thus far," said Wylie.

Authorities had arrested four suspects last week, and on Wednesday at about 10:30 a.m. they apprehended Pham at Mineta San Jose International Airport, where she allegedly was trying to flee the state by plane. She was taken into custody without incident.

The five suspects are being held without bail, and Deputy DA James Gibbons-Shapiro is in charge of the prosecution.

On the night of the crime, during the early morning hours at 3:54 a.m., someone called 911 using Sanchez-Aquino's cell phone. However, because they lived so close to Highway 101, the call was routed to the California Highway Patrol in Vallejo. Mountain View police were unable to trace the call in time, and neighbors said they heard gunshots coming from the small pink house on Plymouth Street at around 5 a.m. By the time police arrived, the suspects had fled.

The murders shocked residents of Mountain View, none more than the neighbors on Plymouth Street, who called the brother and sister quiet, responsible people who never showed any sign of trouble. Sanchez-Aquino's son is now living with family members.

Police said there was no immediate witness to the murders and little information to go on. They say they have primarily relied on information from Aquino's past to crack the case.

Kudos to the MVPD.

How sad that so many are quick to put down the police over the house party incident yet no praise for catching the suspects on this case.

yes, it's sad that folks are always claiming MVPD officers are racist, brutal and busting up innocent birthday parties, etc, but NEVER give them credit for solving murders and other crime in short order. In this case both victims were not white, yet MVPD still solved the crime in a professional expedient manner. Where's the racist cops??? I just read another suspect was arrested at Mineta airport this afternoon. I am a proud supporter of our fine officers and wish all you cop bashers would try to step into their shoes before you "armchair quarterback" how they do their job!

Congratulations to the MVPD for a job well done, and thank you for always being there when I have needed you.

MVPD seems to be doing a great job getting these criminals off the streets lately!

How sad that these "people" had a month to back out and no one took the high road to warn the victim or the police. Thay should all be charged with double murder and sent away forever regardless of their age. Thank you to the MVPD and whoever helped crack the case. I sure hope the iphone was worth it. This should hopefully act as a lesson that good will prevail over evil. And KARMA, wether it be good or bad will win out!!! I sure hope the little 8 year old boy who was left behind doesn't let this event "ruin" his life and make him hate the world(people)...but then how could it not change him?

Just an after thought...when this first happened most of the comments talked about Illegal Immigration(aliens) or gang members committing the crimes in our city. Do the suspects look illegal? Most are related, I sure hope their parents are "proud", I guess the apple might not fall far from the tree. Maybe we should also charge their parents with raising such "fine" citizens. Yes, I am being sarcastic.

To LTM,

No, I bet their parents are embarrassed and ashamed their kids are in bad trouble. Tell me something, Are your parents still responsible for you?

Racism? Profiling? The victims were black and the perpatrators were black, asian and white. People need to get off the race card excuses. Black, white, asian, male or female. They're all cowerdly murderers. Fry these punks!! Kudos MVPD!!

Correction: The victims were hispanic. That makes it even more of a mixed race situation. And girls involved too. What the heck is going on with these people.

This is crazy - I never thought I would see the day that crime was on the rise in Mountain View. I've lived in Mountain View since I was 3yrs and now I'm 33 and I cannot believe how crime in Mountain View nowadays. Gangs is Mountain View - whaattt??? Are you kidding. And what really gets me is the crime seems to be always committed by someone out of the city - from San Jose - from Santa Clara etc.

Every year for the last past 5yrs someone in my household's car has been broken into and a radio stolen. I was in shock when my brother's bronco truck got stolen in front of my parents eyes about 6yrs ago. And the people who stole it was from San Jose.

Oh and regarding the MVP - I have mixed feelings about them. I remember an incident when I myself called the MVP and instead of them speaking to the caller - the resident - me - they decided to speak to the person whom I called the police on. I was told to "shut up" by MVP. by some short asshole cop. All I was saying is - hello - I'm the one who called you. Another incident was with an x-boyfriend who hid his driving record from me. He was stopped by the police and had my car towed away and in the pound. The cop stopped him a block from my house at the Safeway off of Shoreline Blvd. The only reason why he was driving because I was sick. The cop told us to get out of the car and called a tow truck to pick my car up and take it to the pound. I went to the MVP department and spoke to cop in hopes he would release my car - without me paying a fine, but he didn't - his excuse was that since we had been dating for 6months I should've known this information. Excuse me??!! Another asshole cop.

Could be because I'm black - I'm not sure - but both incidents left me with mixed feelings about MVP. Each policecar rides around with "Protect and Serve" I feel sometimes excluded me from their list.

I'm not saying that all the MVP policemen are bad - but the ones I have encountered were.

To Bob,

No, my parents are not responsible for me (I am 41 years old) but they raised me to know right from wrong. And to this day the thought of disgracing them...well I hate to think of what my parents would do to me. Maybe if these parents were more into parenting and not into being their child's friend(and their feelings)we wouldn't have these "grown -up criminals". I realize that they may have been raised by single working parents but that is no excuse for what they did!!!!
