Preservation officials seek input on Hangar One

Bookmark and Share
The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation is making a rare visit from Washington, D.C. today to conduct a public hearing on the Navy's decision to remove the toxic siding of Moffett Field's historic Hangar One and leave its bare skeleton behind.

Once the ACHP receives public input this evening at the Computer History Museum, it will take a position and make formal comments to the Navy. If the council disagrees with the Navy, the president of the United States would make the final call.

"The Navy will assert that they have consulted with them," said Lenny Siegel, director of the Center for Public Environmental Oversight. "Then it becomes a political process since both the Navy and ACHP are under the president."

The council has only traveled to California one other time in the last 10 years, said Brian Turner of the ACHP in an e-mail.

Tonight's hearing starts at 7 p.m. at the Hahn Auditorium at the Computer History Museum, located at 1401 N. Shoreline Blvd. Written comments can be sent to the ACHP at:

Ms. Kelly Fanizzo,
Advisory Council on Historic Preservation
1100 Pennsylvania Ave., NW
Room 803, Washington, D.C. 20004

Well here we go again showing that no one CARES..

It would be nice if NASA and our “local” politicians care about the local situation. There was a news release on KLIV (1590 am) this morning (Thursdays, 18 Sept 08) that six of the “local” politicians sign a letter to keep Hanger One as is. I have yet to see anything on any of the Newspaper’s Web sites to that effect.

It was just like the Navy Exchange/Service Station at Moffett. No one CARES and people have other plans.

It would be GREAT if our (?) politicians would step up and support the Armed Service Community (Active Duty, Guard, Reserve and Retirees). Be it SAVING HANGER ONE or get us a new Base Exchange/Service Station or a modern Commissary

I get the feeling the Bay Area Congressional Delegation does not care about the Armed Service Community (Active Duty, Guard, Reserve and Retirees).
