Carl "Bud" Roberts

Carl "Bud" Roberts died Wednesday, March 4, 2015. at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California. Born Nov. 8, 1935, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, to Beulah Perry and Maxwell Roberts, he attended Springfield College where he was a member of the gymnastics team as well as the basketball and cross country teams. He received a Bachelors of Science in physical education from Springfield College and a Masters in Education from Bridgewater State University, after which, he taught AP Biology at South Weymouth High School.

After college he joined the U.S. Army, where he served at Fort Knox Kentucky as a physical therapist. He was a member of the Army golf team. While in the Army he married Elizabeth Trenouth and raised three children, Pamela, Joel, and Jeffrey. He loved to sail with his children and nieces in the Cape Cod area.

In 1976 he moved his family to Sunnyvale, California, where he worked for American Express IDS, and then later in his career, he worked for various mortgage companies in California and Texas, as well as most recently at Trader Joe's in Los Altos.

In the summer of 1995, he met Beverly Browne at Unity Church, Palo Alto, his loving partner over the past 20 years. He served on the board of trustees and sang in the choir whenever possible.

Bud loved his family and friends dearly. He was truly special and a positive person who enjoyed playing golf, sailing, meditating, visiting the beach and walking his Black Labrador, Ebony. He was a one of a kind man and our world is brighter having had him in our lives.

He was preceded in death by his sons Jeffrey and Joel, former wife Elizabeth, granddaughter Jenna Sider, and sister Lorraine Judkins.

Bud is survived by his spouse Beverly Browne of Atherton, California; daughter Pamela Sider (Bruce), and grandchildren Daniella and Jordan of Malaga, Spain; and sister Marilyn Chapman (Bruce) of Watertown, New York, as well as three nieces.
