Cartan, Dorothy Mary Bjorklund. Age 87, of Menlo Park CA, peacefully passed away at home on September 24, 2012.
Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Survived by brother Richard Bjorklund (Dorothy); children Leslie Shackelford (Doug Campbell), Linda Philpin (John), Karen (Lisa) Dunton, Howdie (Melissa), Jim (Nancy) and Ian Cartan (Kurt Culver); 2 grandchildren Jim and Addie Cartan; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Preceeded in death by parents Theodore Bjorklund and Selma Gabrielsson Bjorklund, brother Len Bjorklund and husband Henry Cartan III. Dorothy was a first generation American born to Swedish immigrants on May 14, 1925, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1943.
During World War II, she moved to California, where she lived life to the fullest until her death. A community leader and philanthropist, Dorothy was known for her sense of humor and compassion; she always had a sparkle in her eyes and brought joy to everyone she met.
She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for her beautiful smile and kind spirit.
