Oswald "Ozzie" Peter Thompson passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, March 11, 2012.

Ozzie was born in Baldwin, Louisiana, and served in the Navy before moving to Texas. After working for the VA Hospital in Texas he then migrated to Palo Alto in 1965.

Devoted husband to Verta Mae Thompson for over 40 years, they shared many camping trips, were involved in numerous social organizations, owned their own business and could be seen selling at flea markets and antique shows locally and throughout the state.

Father to Verdina, Allen, Michael, Martha, Robert, Jackie, and Mark, and stepfather to Elaine and Steve. Loving grandfather and great-grandfather to over 30. Ozzie worked as a manager at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto for over 30 years before retiring. Even after retirement he continued to work and volunteer with a host of senior citizen organizations.

He was a dedicated and loyal member of Knights of Columbus. Ozzie was pillar of the the community attending city council meetings and always went out of his way to help those in need. He will be deeply missed and loved.

Ozzie helped me out with the BBQ's at the Elks lodge and the VA hospital. Always with a smile and loved to share his knowledge of BBQ and smoking. He will be missed. God Bless Him.
