Voices Around Town

How do you feel about the proposed ban on outdoor smoking?

Asked in downtown Mountain View. Interviews and photos by Anna Li.

"I don't think it's going to change anything. It's more of an avenue of revenue for the city."

Brendan McCarthy, San Jose

"I'm still going to smoke wherever I want to smoke. If people don't like that, then they can move. But I definitely respect not smoking in front of an open door to a business."

Joy Farber, Sunnyvale

"They're phasing out smoking through taxation and laws. It's just a matter of time. But I want it to be very specific to where you can and cannot smoke."

Brian Smith, Mountain View

"I do think that smoking outdoors should be kept away from publically accessible buildings, especially entrances, sidewalks, and places where people will be walking."

Alex Pierce, Mountain View

"I can understand no smoking in restaurants and stores. But outside, I don't see why people can't smoke."

Debbie Marcuson, Mountain View

Hey Joy, What a selfish, stupid attitude. It is widely accepted that your smoking is hazardous to my health. And even if it wasn't, it is obnoxious and annoying. My not smoking is not obnoxious and annoying. So if you are smoking around me, YOU can move. It's your selfish attitude that makes me support a total ban on smoking. Luckily, I believe you are in the minority.
