Voices Around Town

Has your view of the Affordable Care Act changed?

Asked in downtown Mountain View. Photos and interviews by Nick Veronin.

"I think it goes a long way to getting people insurance that they need. Helps business, as well, because it gives insurance companies new customers, so it's good for the insurance industry, too. It's probably not as good for the individual insuree as other systems you find in other countries, like single payer."

Ash Morgan, Mountain View

"I think politics is a game of un-shining the shoe, and that's what the Republicans are doing right now. They're blaming the website for its overall impact, instead of its actual intended impact. I think it was good to begin with and I think it still should be the long-term plan for America."

Kamar Bratko, San Francisco

"I think that it's unfair to assume that anybody is going to understand the amount of tech savvyness you would need to have a single website handle the stress that has been placed on (HealthCare.gov). It's unfortunate that the website itself hasn't panned out, but it hasn't changed the way I view Obamacare. I think it's appalling that we don't have some form of socialized medicine in this country."

Daniel Owens, San Jose

"My initial thoughts were that it was going to be an easy thing to do, but it seems to me that its going to take some time really understand what we're doing. I expected it to be better."

Dilma Coleman, Mountain View

"I am in favor of the idea. I thought when they passed it that the information about how it was supposed to work wasn't really there. I'm still in favor of it, but the way they've handled the roll-out has been pathetic."

Mike McReynolds, Lopez Island, Wash.
