DUI crackdown continues through New Year's Day

The Mountain View Police Department continues to crack down on drunken drivers. The department's annual "Avoid the 13" program kicked off Friday, Dec. 13, and will continue through the first of the New Year.

"Don't let a DUI be on your Christmas list this year!" a press release from the MVPD warned. According to the department's public information officer, law enforcement agencies throughout the county are participating, with the goal of raising awareness and taking impaired drivers off the road.

Last year, Mountain View officers arrested 55 intoxicated drivers -- the highest number in the county outside of San Jose.

"The bottom line is, if you drink, don't drive!" Jaeger said.
