Seems that fast food businesses suffer if such criminal are not quickly surveillance video id and caught. In the past year, there are available a few professional High definition digital security systems that give very clear images at night, good enough to read plates over a parking lot. Typically without the very bright glaring lights of the past. Perhaps businesses, which have focused on good security in the store, should also focus on security surveillance on the parking lot. Otherwise customers will be too afraid to stop after dark. I have bought a couple a such cameras for our use, they are worlds better than old analog TV camera, but expect to pay $800 to $1000 just for the best camera.

I like Ted's solution:
This is a perfect example why I wish we had the right to conceal a weapon. If these three young people had one in their defense perhaps this low life criminal would've been scared away and had his lesson learned.
