PODS parked along the street?

Original post made by picker-of-nits, Gemello, on Sep 14, 2013

A friend is moving and wants to use a PODS container to do it. The PODS people told her that she'd need to get a permit from the city to have one, which the city knows nothing about so doesn't give any.

But the city also told her that PODS are illegal to leave on the street, whether parked along the curb and not obstructing traffic or not. But I **know** I've seen them used all over town... and apparently with no repercussions.

Have you or any other Mountain View resident you know ever gotten a citation for having their PODS container on the street right next to the curb?

I've told my friend that if it were me, I wouldn't worry about it; that the city isn't going to tow a PODS container and whatever the citation fine might be, it will still be worth it.

Thanks.

Uhhh...that is a really bad idea. Do you know that the city will charge you the cost of towing plus storage fees plus administrative fees plus citation?

I had a car/trailer towed before and total charges came out to $800....and that had wheels!

A POD? $1000? $1500?

I would just call the police department and ask. I'm sure permission can be gotten without much hassle.
