I hope they keep the accelerated advanced track to Pre-Algegbra in 6th, Algebra in 7th, and Geometry in 8th. Balanced sounds good as long as students are not held back. Technology like Khan Academy can be used to tailor the needs of each student. Motivated students can learn very quickly.

The earlier math is introduced to students, the more comfortable they will be as adults. Children need to be introduced to advanced concepts in elementary school not middle school. Preschoolers need to learn math from playing with blocks that have whole blocks, half blocks, quarter blocks, etc. They should learn to add with their fingers and toes and then subtract. Children are capable if only subjects were introduced early enough. The same goes with language. We just wait too long to teach.
